38 mm watches: the 37 to 38.5 mm cases

Over a hundred watches between 37 and 38.5 mm, the size that fits most wrists and most cuffs. Sorted by price; lug-to-lug on every entry.

Checked 20 September 2026 · list prices on the maker's site that day unless marked street

Thirty-eight millimetres is the size the market has quietly returned to. Seiko's Alpinist, the Nodus Sector line, Serica's 6190, Tudor's Black Bay 58 at 39 and the Hamilton Khaki Field at 38 all sit here, and the lug-to-lug spread is wide: 44 mm on a Lorier Falcon, 48 mm on a Halios Universa II. That spread is why the number on the case is only half the measurement.

Every watch in the data from 37 to 38.5 mm, by price.

The cheapest analogue Timex in the data, and a 30 m watch, which is the reason it sits this far down. Quartz, 38 mm, mineral crystal, 20 mm lugs, a polished silver-tone brass case at 47.8 g, Indiglo backlight, on a slip-through fabric strap, $77 on timex.com. Timex publishes neither lug-to-lug nor thickness for it, so the table carries two dashes. The Scout at $95 is the alternative for $18 more: 40 mm, 50 m, 11 mm thick, on a strap with spring bars. The Weekender's trade is 20 m of water resistance and two blank columns; what it keeps is the size, 2 mm under the Scout.

The one GMT under $300, and the reason to buy it. A fourth-hand caller GMT on a Swiss quartz movement (Timex's wording), 38 mm, 12.5 mm thick, 50 m, domed acrylic, 18 mm lugs, a rotating red and blue 24-hour bezel and a date, $269. Caller means the GMT hand sets independently and the local hour does not jump, as with the Seiko NH34 in the Islander and Spinnaker GMTs on the GMT list. The Q Timex 1979 Reissue incumbents list is no longer on timex.com; this is the current Q. No lug-to-lug is published. The Vaer DS2 at $239 is the other quartz on the page, sapphire and 150 m; the Q trades both for the second time zone.

This is the automatic to buy under $300, and the fullest sheet in the bracket: NH35, 38 mm case, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 13 mm thick, 200 m, sapphire with anti-reflective coating, BGW9 lume, a 120-click bezel with a ceramic top ring and a 316L screw-link bracelet with a fly-adjust clasp, $275 and in stock on the check date. San Martin's page calls the Classic Design collection homage watches; this one follows the 1965 Seiko 6200, the SN004. The Spinnaker Croft at $280 list is the alternative for the money, 2 mm larger, 0.8 mm thicker and 50 m shallower. PT5000, SW200 and bronze versions exist in the same collection, and the trade on all of them is the word homage.

The field watch to buy if a battery change is the thing never to think about again: Citizen's E101 Eco-Drive solar, now titled Garrison on citizenwatch.com. 37 mm, 100 m, mineral crystal, lumed hands and markers, 18 mm lugs, $295 list and $236 on Citizen's own sale on the check date. Citizen publishes neither the lug-to-lug nor the thickness, so both are dashes. It is the only solar watch on this page and the only one from a major brand. A Jomashop landing page showed it at $219 with a $100 coupon; street runs far below list. The trade is the mineral crystal, and the alternative is the Vaer S5 on the under-$200 list, sapphire at $189 with a battery.

The field watch to buy at $299 if the wrist is small: 44 mm lug-to-lug is the shortest of any automatic on this page. Titanium, Seiko NH38A no-date, 38 mm, 200 m, flat sapphire with anti-reflective coating and a BGW9 full-lume dial on 20 mm lugs. Boldr does not state the thickness on this listing, so the table shows a dash. The two Islanders at $249 are the alternative, $50 less, in steel, with 100 m; the Venture's 200 m is what separates them. The range runs $299 to $459, and the quartz Venture GMT at $299 was sold out in every dial. Boldr sells in drops, so the colour is the thing to verify before the price.

The title names Seiko's 1965 diver. 37 mm, 46.5 mm lug-to-lug, 12.8 mm thick, 200 m, sapphire, a 120-click ceramic bezel, C3 lume, on a 316L bracelet with a fine-tuning folding clasp or FKM rubber. The smaller chronograph, and the one for a wrist under 6.75 inches: $310, 38 mm, 44.7 mm lug-to-lug, 12.9 mm thick, Seiko VK63, fixed black tachymeter, 50 m, on a 19 mm lug, also sold in 36 mm. The crystal is sapphire-coated mineral rather than the 1962's K1, and the run is 1,964 pieces per colour. Against the 1962 the $20 buys 1.2 mm off the lug-to-lug, 0.6 mm off the thickness and the coating, and costs a millimetre of dial and the panda options. The 19 mm lug is the awkward figure; straps in that width are scarcer than 20 mm. Brew's Retrograph at $375 is the next meca-quartz up, with sapphire.

The dress automatic to buy at Orient's $295 selling price if the wrist is small: 44 mm lug-to-lug on a 38.4 mm case, the shortest on the page. Orient F6724 automatic, 12.5 mm thick, 30 m, domed mineral crystal, 20 mm lugs, black dial on a strap, $430 compare-at on Orient USA and in stock on the check date; Long Island Watch showed $295, sold out. The Seiko SRPB43 below is the alternative at $450 list, 50 m and box Hardlex, 2.1 mm larger. The Bambino's trade is 30 m and mineral glass; it is not the $350 Bambino 38 line, a different watch.

The Baltic to buy at €385 if 38 mm is your size and hesalite does not trouble you. Miyota 8315 automatic, 47 mm lug to lug, 13 mm thick with the dome included, 50 m, four dials (Silver, Blue Gilt, Black and Gold PVD Black) at one price, on Italian calf leather with bracelet options. The alternative for the same €385 is the HMS 003 below, the same watch 1.5 mm narrower and 1 mm shorter, and the choice between them is wrist width and nothing else. What €385 does not buy is sapphire: the crystal is high-domed hesalite, which scratches and polishes out, and the price reflects it.

The one to buy if the appeal is the 1980s prototype-racer look in aluminium: $450, 38.5 mm, 40 mm lug-to-lug, 11.4 mm thick, 50 m, sapphire, quartz ana-digi with a 1/100-second chronograph, alarm, 3 time zones and an EL backlight, in anodised aluminium (gold, grey or silver) with a 316L caseback, on an FKM rubber strap tapering 20 mm to 18 mm. The 40 mm lug-to-lug is the shortest on this site for a case this size; it fits a 6-inch wrist. Casio's GA2100 at $110 is the ana-digi for a quarter of the money with 200 m; RZE's UTD-8000 at $279 is titanium and 200 m. Autodromo's $450 buys the aluminium, the sapphire and the design.

The smallest and thinnest Seiko diver in the data, and the thinnest watch on this list at 11 mm: 38 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm lugs, sapphire, 200 m, a V147 solar movement Seiko rates at ten months of reserve. The price needs a footnote: Seiko USA's product page returned a 404 on the check date, so $495 is Long Island Watch's stated list, where it was sold out; the black-dial SNE573 on silicone lists at $475 there, on sale at $380. The 42.8 mm SNE589 is ISO 6425 certified and $525, just over the line. For $66 less the Vaer D4 is the same 46 mm lug-to-lug with USA assembly and a ceramic bezel.

Stone-dial versions are $575 and $600. Frost was out of stock, and Marigold and Void were sold out on the check date; Nodus makes small runs. The Sector II GMT is the same case with an NH34 for $50 more, in the Nodus guide. Against the Islander Port Jefferson at $529 the trade is the movement, NH38 against Miyota 9015, and 50 m.

Against the Sport the gauge costs $125 in steel and $200 in DLC. The gauge is the whole premium; the case beneath it is the Sport's, and the Sport in Glacial could also be ordered.

The Summiteer is the same case with a field dial at $700; the Commuter 36 is $690, the 34 $630. The Lorier Neptune at $699 is the alternative: 200 m and a bezel for a 12-month warranty against three. $700 buys the sheet the Hamilton does not have: a hardened case, an automatic, 100 m, a bracelet and the longest warranty on the page. 38.5 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 10.5 mm thick, 20 mm lugs, Miyota 9039, box sapphire with AR, steel hardened to a stated 1,200 HV, BGW9 Grade A, a 20 to 16 mm bracelet with a six-position quick-adjust clasp. Three-year transferable warranty; the brand is in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and does not state where assembly happens. The Summiteer 36 uses the 36.5 by 44 by 10.5 mm Commuter 36 case at $690, with Sage Green dials at $640 and $650. Against the Hamilton one rung down it is $25 more for all of that and 1 mm of thickness. The Traska guide has the Commuters.

The Baltic diver for a wrist the 39.5 mm would overhang: at 45 mm lug to lug it is 2 mm shorter than any other diver the brand makes. 37 mm across, 12.9 mm thick, 200 m, Miyota 9039 no-date or 9015 with date, double-domed sapphire, sapphire bezel insert, Super-LumiNova BGW9, from €630 in the same four dials as the larger MK2 (Blue, Grey, Green, Warm Silver), on FKM rubber Classic with bracelet options. The alternative for €80 less is the Hermétique Tourer, 1 mm longer, 2.1 mm thinner, on a fixed bezel. The trade against the 39.5 mm is dial area and nothing else; the price and the movement are the same.

The Furlan Marri to buy at $725 as the maker shows it to US buyers (CHF 585 before tax), and the reason is the case: 38 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 12 mm thick, with round pushers on a 316L case. Seiko VK64 meca-quartz, 50 m, sapphire with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings, on a burgundy and grey leather strap tapering 20 to 16 mm. The Ardesia Blu, Nero Sabbia and Castagna dials are the same price. The Charlie Paris GR at $645 is the VK64 alternative with 100 m for $80 less; the Furlan Marri's trade is 50 m, and what the $80 buys is the dial and the pushers.

The 43.6 mm lug-to-lug is the shortest of any 38 mm watch here; the Serica 6190 is 46.5 mm. The C65 Trident Diver and Aquitaine GMT have left the catalogue, so this is the C65 three-hander that remains. The Serica at $1,290 is the alternative: COSC, 200 m, 1.3 mm thinner. The Dune's trade is $45 more for 2.9 mm less length and no certificate.

The top rung, $1,390, buys the only chronometer certificate on the page. Serica's 6190-1 is a COSC Soprod M100 in a 38 mm case, 46.5 mm lug-to-lug, 10.4 mm thick, 20 mm lugs, 200 m, a 1.8 mm double-domed sapphire with inner AR, a fixed flat step bezel, a Bonklip steel bracelet. The site shows $1,390 to US buyers and €1,190 in Europe; made in Switzerland per the brand, two-year warranty. The 6190 California is $1,290 and the 35 mm 7505-1 is $1,290 at 41.5 mm lug-to-lug and 9.6 mm. Against the Formex it is $415 more for the certificate and 50 m, and 0.2 mm thinner; that is the whole of what the last rung buys. The Serica guide has the diving chronometers.

The enamel 6190 at $1,390 (€1,190), and the reason to pay the same as the M.S.L. is the two-tone Tuxedo enamel dial, which the M.S.L. does not have. Everything else is the shared case: 38 mm, 46.5 mm lug-to-lug, 10.4 mm thick, 200 m, Soprod M100 with COSC, 1.8 mm double-domed sapphire, fixed flat step bezel, Super-LumiNova C3, Bonklip 6190 bracelet. The 6190 Denali and Commando dials on the listing page sit at the California's €1,090, so the 6190 family runs €1,090 to €1,190 on one case, one bracelet and one certificate. For the money the alternative is the M.S.L.; for $100 less, the California. Enamel is the only thing on this page you cannot have cheaper.

The worldtimer, and at €1,300 the cheapest route to a Soprod C125 in this data set: Serica runs the same calibre in its 8315 at $2,450 (€2,090) with COSC certification, which Baltic does not state. 37 mm across, 45 mm lug to lug, 11.3 mm thick, 100 m, double-domed sapphire, unidirectional 120-click brushed ceramic bezel, Super-LumiNova BGW9, on Italian calf leather, 200 numbered pieces per dial. The alternative from Baltic is the GMT MK-II at €450 less, 2.5 mm larger, 2.5 mm thicker and rated to twice the depth. The trade for the €450 is a Swiss calibre and a stone dial against water resistance and a bezel that times a dive.

Exactly $5,000 on the US site, counted as in, and the successor to the SBGW231 most lists still recommend, whose page returns a 404. 37.3 mm, 44.3 mm lug-to-lug, 11.7 mm thick, 19 mm lugs, hand-wound 9S64, box-shaped sapphire with AR inside, steel. Grand Seiko states the water resistance as "splash resistant", which is a description rather than a number, so the WR cell is a dash. The King Seiko SJE109 below at $3,100 is 0.7 mm shorter lug-to-lug, 1.8 mm thinner and automatic; the SBGX261 quartz at $2,700 is the cheaper Grand Seiko, in the under-$2,500 list's notes. The $5,000 buys the hand-wound 9S64 and the Grand Seiko dial; it does not buy a rating you can write down.

Habring² publishes no prices, which Austrian VAT law is cited for, so the Erwin sits on this site without a figure and is placed by what its maker does publish: a jumping deadbeat seconds on a movement the Habrings build themselves in Völkermarkt. It is the only watch in the data with that complication and the only one whose price you have to ask a dealer for. A US dealer article put it at $6,400; that is not the maker's number and is not printed as one. The nearest thing on the site by idea is the Nomos Tangente, hand-wound and in-house at $2,330, without the dead seconds.
