Massena LAB watches, model by model

Massena LAB's own-brand range is four watches from $1,595 to $4,250, all made in Switzerland on Sellita calibres, and on 19 September 2026 exactly one of them was in stock. The Magraph at $8,675 carried the brand's first proprietary movement and sold out, which is the pattern here.

Massena LAB is William Massena's label, founded in New York in 2018 by a collector who had run watch retail in Miami and New York before it. It does two things. Under its own name it makes Swiss-made chronographs and a three-hand racer with vintage references in the dial; alongside those it co-signs editions built by other independents, Habring2, Louis Erard, Unimatic, Atelier Wen, Raúl Pagès and Vianney Halter among them. This page is the own-brand tier. The collaborations run to $49,900 for the Halter and $44,100 for the Atelier Wen Inflection Shuò, a tantalum 40 mm on a Girard-Perregaux GP03300 in an edition of 50, sold out on Massena's site, and they are ranked with their makers, not here.

Two things the spec sheets settle and one they do not. The chronographs are hand-wound on the Sellita SW510 M Elaboré with a 58 h reserve, in the 39 mm Uni-Racers and the 42 mm Archetype; the Dato-Racer is the one automatic, on a Sellita SW400-1. Crystals split by line: the Uni-Racers use a 4 mm domed acrylic with an anti-scratch treatment and are rated to 50 m, the Archetype a double-domed sapphire with AR and 100 m. What no product page gives is a lug-to-lug or a lug width, on any model, so a strap buyer is guessing.

Two further own-brand pieces are sold out and missing a diameter in the data, so they stay out of the table: the Geometer, a private-release reissue of the 1954 Rodania Geometer at $3,495, and the Magraph at $8,675, the M660 hand-wound calibre designed by Raúl Pagès for Massena LAB, 4 Hz and 60 h, with Côtes de Genève and hand-chamfered anglage under an exhibition back. Sales are direct plus stockists, some releases are friends-and-family only at one per household, and the guarantee is 2 years.

Read the table by stock first, then by crystal. The Uni-Racer Rally was the only own-brand watch in stock on the check date; the Dato-Racer, Uni-Racer Black and White are sold out and the Archetype 1.0 is a friends-and-family exclusive. Acrylic and 50 m on the 39 mm Uni-Racers, sapphire and 100 m on the 42 mm Archetype; both on the same hand-wound SW510 M.

The entry to the range at $1,595, sold out, and the only automatic: 40 mm, Sellita SW400-1 with 38 h and 26 jewels, sapphire, polished bezel over brushed lugs, black perforated calfskin racing strap with a red lining, made in Switzerland. Thickness, lug-to-lug and water resistance are not stated; the specs come from the feed description, so treat the row as medium confidence. For the same money with a full sheet, Farer's Resolute III, $1,220 on a La Joux-Perret G101 at 39 mm, 45 mm lug-to-lug and 11.8 mm, is one; MONTA's Noble 40 is $1,895 with 200 m. The Dato-Racer is the racing dial and the name; the sheet has three blanks.

The one to buy, because it is the one that can be bought: $3,495, an initial release of 35, numbered, in stock on the check date. 39 mm, 9 mm thick, 50 m, Sellita SW510 M Élaboré hand-wound at 4 Hz with 58 h, a 4 mm domed acrylic crystal, warm brown calfskin. The Cruise, Safari, Black and White variants are the same $3,495 and sold out. Farer's Libre is $2,095 on the same SW510 base at 13.4 mm with sapphire and 100 m; the Uni-Racer is 4.4 mm thinner and $1,400 more, and the acrylic is how the 9 mm is done. That is the trade, stated plainly: thickness for crystal and depth.

The reverse-panda Uni-Racer, reference UR-001, at $3,495 and out of stock; the White is the same price and also sold out. The case is the Rally's: 39 mm, 9 mm thick, 50 m, domed acrylic, 316L, hand-wound SW510 M with 58 h. Nothing on the sheet separates the two beyond the dial, so the choice is made by availability, and on the check date that meant the Rally. If a black hand-wound panda at 39 mm is the brief and waiting is not, Baltic's Scalegraph Classic Panda is €1,585 at 39.5 mm, 47 mm lug-to-lug and 13.5 mm on the Sellita SW510-M, with sapphire. It is 4.5 mm thicker, and €1,585 against $3,495.

The top of the own-brand range at $4,250, limited to 50, sold as a friends-and-family exclusive at one per household: 42 mm, 14 mm thick, 100 m, Sellita SW510 BH M Elaboré hand-wound with 58 h, double-domed sapphire with AR, hunter green Saffiano strap, made in Switzerland. The Archetype 0.0 was the same price and is sold out. Against the Uni-Racer it is 3 mm larger and 5 mm thicker, and gets sapphire and 100 m for the extra 5 mm. Vertex's MP45 monopusher is £2,900 at 40 mm and 14.8 mm; MING's 57.04 is CHF 6,250 at 40 mm and 11.85 mm. The Archetype's sheet is sound; the constraint is the guest list.

Who it is for

Massena LAB is for the buyer who wants a Swiss hand-wound chronograph at 9 mm and will accept acrylic and 50 m to get it, and who is either quick or on the list. On wrist size the data says only 39 mm and 42 mm, because no model publishes a lug-to-lug; a buyer who needs that figure should ask the brand before ordering. Look elsewhere if you want the same class of movement under sapphire for less, since Farer's Libre is $2,095 and Nivada's Chronomaster is $2,085 with five bezels; if you want to walk in and buy, since Fears, Formex and MONTA hold stock at this money; or if you want a chronograph rated past 50 m, since only the Archetype is, and it is not on general sale.

Where it sits against the field

At $3,495 the Uni-Racer sits with Fears's Brunswick 40 at $3,500, Formex's Essence Ceramica at $3,690, Ophion's OPH 786 at €3,620 and anOrdain's Model 3 at £3,695, all three-handers with published dimensions and, in anOrdain's case, an enamel dial made in-house. Among hand-wound chronographs it is the thinnest in the data at 9 mm; Farer's Libre at $2,095 and 13.4 mm, Baltic's Scalegraph at €1,585 and 13.5 mm and Nivada's Chronomaster at $2,085 and 14.55 mm are the cheaper, thicker, sapphire alternatives, and Vertex's MP45 at £2,900 is the monopusher. The Archetype at $4,250 is priced under MING's 57.04 at CHF 6,250 and has the simpler sheet. Where Massena LAB sits in the wider field is the high-end ranking.
