Best watches under $750

The cheapest mechanical GMT from a major maker, and the one Hardlex exception on the page: $495 buys a 4R34 automatic GMT and Seiko's own hardened mineral glass, and that is the trade. 42.5 mm case, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 13.6 mm thick, 100 m, bidirectional 24-hour bezel. The 4R34 is a caller GMT (the 24-hour hand sets independently, the local hour does not), which the GMT list explains. The SSK003 is the blue and red colourway at the same price. Long Island Watch listed it at $396 and sold out on the check date. The alternative for the money is the Nodus Sector II Sport at $525: no GMT, sapphire, and an assembly line on the page, $30 apart.

The entry to buy if the assembly claim matters: every Nodus product page says designed and assembled in Los Angeles, and only the Vaer A5 here says anything comparable. 38 mm, 47 mm lug-to-lug, 11.7 mm thick, Seiko NH38 no-date automatic, 100 m, flat-top sapphire, $525 on a bracelet with the brand's own extension clasp. Stone-dial versions are $575 and $600. Frost was out of stock, and Marigold and Void were sold out on the check date; Nodus makes small runs. The Sector II GMT is the same case with an NH34 for $50 more, in the Nodus guide. Against the Islander Port Jefferson at $529 the trade is the movement, NH38 against Miyota 9015, and 50 m.

The Miyota 9015 skin diver to buy at $529, and 2 mm thinner than the 42 mm SKX-platform Islander because of that movement. 40 mm, 48 mm lug-to-lug, 11 mm to the case top (11.5 mm to the crystal apex), 150 m, single-domed sapphire, lumed ceramic bezel insert, beads-of-rice bracelet tapering 20 to 18 mm. Islander does not state where its automatics are assembled; the warranty is one year. Out of stock on the check date. The Nodus Sector II Sport at $525 is the alternative for the money with the assembly line filled in and a smaller case; the Islander's answer is the 9015 and the bracelet. The most repeated pick on the incumbent under-$500 lists (five of eight), quoted there at $201 to $280, and by this site's rule a $580 watch that happens to be on sale. Orient USA's own store shows $580 compare-at with $375 as the selling price, and Long Island Watch matches $375 (sold out on the check date). 42 mm (Orient's page says 41.88 mm), 46.5 mm lug-to-lug and 13 mm thick per the retailer, Orient F6922 day-date automatic, 200 m, sapphire, 120-click bezel. It is the only day-date diver on the list. At $375 it undercuts everything here; at $580 list the Seiko King Turtle at $650 is the alternative, ISO-rated 200 m with a ceramic insert, $70 more.

The automatic field watch to buy at $599 over the Hamilton three entries down, if 100 m and an automatic matter more than the name. 40 mm, 48 mm lug-to-lug, 10.4 mm thick, Miyota 9015, 100 m, single-domed sapphire, two straps, stated as USA assembled on the product page. Against the Khaki Field Mechanical it is an automatic rather than a hand-wound, 100 m rather than 50 m, 1 mm longer lug-to-lug and 0.9 mm thicker, for $76 less. The A5 Tactical is $659 and the 38 mm A5 Atlas $699; the same case with a solar movement is the $349 C5. The Vaer guide has all eleven lines.

The Turtle to buy, and the $125 over the plain SRPE93 buys sapphire with a date magnifier in place of Hardlex, a ceramic bezel insert in place of aluminium, and an ISO 6425 200 m rating. 45 mm case, 47.7 mm lug-to-lug (Seiko's own figure), 13.2 mm thick, 4R36 automatic with hand-winding and hacking, $650. The cushion case keeps the lugs close in, so 47.7 mm is shorter than the 48 mm of the 40 mm Vaer and Islander above. The plain Turtle SRPE93 is $525 on Hardlex, with no lug-to-lug published, and sold out at both sources fetched. The Unimatic UC2 at $655 is the alternative for the money: 300 m, 38 mm, no rotating bezel.

The 38 mm Unimatic to buy at $655 if the rotating bezel is not needed: against the UC1 at $760 you lose the bezel and 2 mm of case and keep $105. Seiko NH35, 300 m, 2.7 mm double-domed sapphire, 8 mm screw-down crown, on a nylon strap. Unimatic is a Milan design studio and numbers its Classic models in yearly batches. It does not publish lug-to-lug or thickness; the 47.6 mm and 13.7 mm in the table are published measurements rather than the maker's. The watch most often quoted at $495, and $675 on hamiltonwatch.com, on a NATO. 38 mm, 47 mm lug-to-lug, 9.5 mm thick, Hamilton H-50 hand-wound with an 80-hour reserve and a Nivachron hairspring, 50 m, sapphire. It is the thinnest watch on this list and one of two hand-wound ones (the Marathon is the other); 50 m is the trade: fine for rain, not stated for swimming. A discounter listed it at $526.50 the same day, which is where the old figure came from. The Marathon Officer's at the same $675 is the alternative, Swiss hand-wound, with tritium and 3 mm less lug-to-lug. The Khaki Field Auto 38 at $845 is the automatic with 100 m, on the under-$1,000 list.

The pick for wrists under 6.5 inches, 44 mm lug-to-lug being the shortest here, and the one to choose over the Hamilton beside it if the lume must work without charging. Marathon builds to a US military specification (the GPM is listed to MIL-PRF-46374G) and sells direct, so $675 list is the street price. Steel GPM: 36 mm, 10.5 mm thick, Sellita SW210-1 hand-wound, 50 m, sapphire, parkerized 316L, tritium gas tubes plus MaraGlo lume, on ballistic nylon. The 34 mm GPM in fibreshell composite is $575 on a Seiko NH35. The trade against the Hamilton at the same $675 is 2 mm of case and 1 mm of thickness; the return is tritium, which glows for years.

The diver to buy at $699 for the case: 39 mm with a 37 mm bezel, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 10.3 mm plus a 1.1 mm domed crystal, and 200 m. The 2026 relaunch under new ownership moved the crystal and bezel insert from acrylic to sapphire. Miyota 9039, on a bracelet tapering 20 to 16 mm with a five-position clasp. On the check date it was on pre-order with September shipping, and the warranty is 12 months. Three incumbent lists quote it at $389 to $500. The Traska Commuter at $700 is the alternative for $1 more, 100 m and a hardened case; the Neptune's trade is the warranty. The Lorier guide lists the discontinued models too.

The everyday watch to buy at $700 for the case: a proprietary hardening quoted at about 1,200 HV, without a trade name. 38.5 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 8.75 mm case and 10.5 mm with the box sapphire, Miyota 9039 (no date) or 9015 (date), 100 m, on a bracelet tapering 20 to 16 mm. Assembly location is not stated; the warranty is three years, transferable. Traska's storefront showed every model unavailable on the check date. The Summiteer is the same case with a field dial at $700; the Commuter 36 is $690, the 34 $630. The Lorier Neptune at $699 is the alternative: 200 m and a bezel for a 12-month warranty against three. The solar diver to buy at $525, and the thinnest 200 m watch on the page at 10.7 mm. Seiko V157 solar quartz, ISO 6425 certified, 42.8 mm, 49.2 mm lug-to-lug, sapphire, LumiBrite, unidirectional bezel, 20 mm lugs. The price needs its source: seikousa.com returned a 404, so $525 is Long Island Watch's list figure, sold out on the check date. Against the King Turtle at $650 it is 2.5 mm thinner and $125 less; the Vaer D4 at $429 on the under-$500 list is the solar diver for less, 3.2 mm shorter across the lugs. The trade is a 49.2 mm lug-to-lug, the longest on the page.

The plain Turtle, $525 on seikousa.com and sold out there and at Long Island Watch ($420) on the check date. Seiko 4R36 automatic, 45 mm, 13.42 mm thick, 200 m, Hardlex, LumiBrite, 120-click bezel with a lumed pip, 22 mm lugs, silicone strap; Seiko publishes no lug-to-lug, and the retailer's 45 mm figure was not adopted. The King Turtle SRPE03 on the main list is the alternative at $650: sapphire, a ceramic insert and an ISO rating for $125 more in the same case. This is the watch the older lists quote at about $380, and the trade against its own sibling is Hardlex and aluminium.

The Citizen automatic diver that replaced the NY0040: $575 buys an ISO-compliant 200 m watch with a screw-down crown on sapphire, sold out on citizenwatch.com on the check date. Citizen 8204 automatic, 44 mm, black-coated steel, a dark blue bezel with a black aluminium ring, lumed hands and markers, 20 mm lugs. Citizen publishes neither lug-to-lug nor thickness, so the table carries two dashes. The Seiko SNE589 at $525 is the alternative for $50 less, ISO-rated and solar with every dimension stated; the Citizen's trade is the two blank columns, and its argument is an automatic with a proper crown at the price.

The chronograph to buy under $750 for a small wrist: 45 mm lug-to-lug on a 39 mm case, 10.9 mm thick before the crystal, 100 m, and $645 as charlie-paris.com shows it to US buyers (€425 on steel). Seiko VK64 meca-quartz, domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating, Berlaglow lume on hands and indices, 20 mm tool-free straps in steel, nylon or leather. The Furlan Marri Rosso Grigio below is the other VK64 on the page at $725: 38 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 50 m, $80 more. The trade is a quartz heart under mechanical pushers, which is what meca-quartz means; the return over the Furlan Marri is 100 m and $80.

The green Alpinist, and the price is a retailer's: seikousa.com and seikoluxe.com both returned 404s on the check date, Jomashop showed $725 retail and $699 selling, out of stock, and an authorised dealer also listed $725. Seiko 6R35 automatic, 39.5 mm, 46.4 mm lug-to-lug (from the identical-case SPB117), 13.2 mm thick, 200 m, sapphire, an inner compass bezel, 20 mm lugs. The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical at $675 is the alternative for $50 less, hand-wound, 50 m and 3.7 mm thinner; the Alpinist's answer is 200 m and an automatic. The trade is a green dial that appears discontinued in the US, so check the number before buying the watch.

A 1970s compressor case with a day-date at $640 compare-at and $425 selling on Orient USA, sold out on the check date. Orient F6922 automatic, 43.5 mm, 13.9 mm thick, 200 m, domed mineral crystal, a bidirectional inner bezel, 20 mm lugs, on a bracelet; no lug-to-lug is published. The Kamasu on the main list is the same movement at $580 compare-at and $375 selling, with sapphire and an external bezel, $60 less on list and $50 less on the day. The trade is mineral glass on a 13.9 mm case; the argument is a compressor layout Orient sells nowhere else at the price.

The Furlan Marri to buy at $725 as the maker shows it to US buyers (CHF 585 before tax), and the reason is the case: 38 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 12 mm thick, with round pushers on a 316L case. Seiko VK64 meca-quartz, 50 m, sapphire with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings, on a burgundy and grey leather strap tapering 20 to 16 mm. The Ardesia Blu, Nero Sabbia and Castagna dials are the same price. The Charlie Paris GR at $645 is the VK64 alternative with 100 m for $80 less; the Furlan Marri's trade is 50 m, and what the $80 buys is the dial and the pushers.

The rose-gold Furlan Marri, same $725, same VK64, and the 4N rose gold PVD case is the whole difference from the Rosso Grigio above. 38 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 12 mm thick with the crystal and 11.5 mm without, 50 m, sapphire with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings, a decagonal screwed caseback, 20 mm quick-release beige and brown leather tapering to 16 mm. Choose between the two on the case colour; the sheet does not separate them. The Charlie Paris Initial Cœur Ouvert at $695 is the other dress watch here for $30 less, an automatic; the Sabbia Rosa's trade is plating, which wears, and a quartz heart under mechanical pushers.

The open-heart dress automatic at $695 as shown to US buyers (€445 on leather, €485 on the bracelet), 10.2 mm thick. Citizen Miyota 82S7 with a 40-hour reserve, 40 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 30 m, sapphire with anti-reflective coating, transparent caseback, 20 mm tool-free straps in leather, steel or rubber. The Jour/Nuit and Initial 36 variants run €445 to €525. The Bulova Sutton skeleton below at $625 is the alternative for $70 less, an open-worked Miyota on domed sapphire with no lug-to-lug published; the Charlie Paris's trade is 30 m, and its return is a full spec sheet and a named calibre.

The skeleton automatic at $625 list and $500 on Bulova's own sale, and half the sheet is blank: 40 mm, 20 mm lugs, 30 m, domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating, no lug-to-lug or thickness published. Bulova's page gives 21 jewels and a 42-hour reserve and does not name the calibre; the Miyota 82S0 family is an inference from the jewel count. The Charlie Paris Initial Cœur Ouvert at $695 is the open-heart alternative for $70 more with every dimension stated and a named Miyota 82S7. The Sutton's trade is the unnamed movement and the two dashes; the return is the sale price, $195 under the Charlie Paris.

The Merlin was 500 pieces at $549, sold out, and Lorier says it will not be made again, so this is a record rather than an offer. Miyota 90S5 automatic, 37 mm, 45 mm lug-to-lug, 11 mm thick including the domed Hesalite, 100 m, a bidirectional friction bezel locked by the 4 o'clock crown, Old Radium Super-LumiNova, on a one-piece leather strap; the product URL returns a 404 and the figures are from the Mainspring review. The Nodus Sector II Sport at $525 is the small-case alternative that can be bought, on an NH38. The Merlin's trade is acrylic and a second-hand market that sets its own price.

A true GMT with 200 m at $599 on the Miyota 9075, and not in Lorier's current catalogue: the product URL returns a 404. 41 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 12.2 mm thick, domed Hesalite, BGW9 and C1 Super-LumiNova, a rotating dive bezel, 20 mm lugs, on a bracelet; the price and specs are from a 2023 review. True GMT means the local hour jumps independently, where the Seiko 4R34 on the main list is a caller movement whose 24-hour hand sets instead. The Neptune at $699 is the Lorier that can be ordered, with sapphire and no GMT. The Hydra's trade is acrylic and availability.

The big Nodus diver at $700, 300 m on a Miyota 9015, and not in the current catalogue: no page on noduswatches.com, so the sheet is from a 2022 first look. 43.5 mm, 48 mm lug-to-lug, 12.75 mm thick, double-domed sapphire, 120-click bezel with a glossy ceramic insert, Super-LumiNova T-C1 X1, an H-link bracelet tapering 20 to 18 mm with the NodeX clasp; four dial colours. The Sector Deep at $650 is the Nodus with 500 m on the microbrand dive list that can be bought; the Avalon II's trade is that it cannot, and the number here is the one it launched at.

A 48 mm lugless case with 500 m at $675, and every figure is from a 2020 prototype review because the Puck II is not on the Halios site. Miyota 9015, 14 mm thick, double-domed sapphire with underside anti-reflective coating, a rotating bezel under a sapphire overlay, Super-LumiNova C3, on a steel bracelet; the lug-to-lug is not stated in the fetched source. The Nodus Sector Deep at $650 is the 500 m watch on the microbrand dive list that can be ordered; the Puck's trade is a 48 mm case and a price quoted plus shipping six years ago.

Retired, and on the page because it was the entry to the brand: CHF 460 before tax was its list, $570 as the maker's page shows it to US buyers, still marked Retired on the check date.
